Drywall Tape Formulas

Example Calculation

For 1,000 sq ft of walls using 4 × 8 sheets, estimated sheets = ceil(1,000 / 32) = 32 sheets. Base tape = 32 x 16 = 512 linear ft. With 10% waste, waste tape = 512 x 0.10 = 51.2 linear ft and total tape = 563.2 linear ft. Using 250 ft rolls, 563.2 / 250 = 2.25, so the calculator rounds up to 3 rolls. At $8 per roll, estimated material cost is 3 x $8 = $24.
