Frequently Asked Questions

What calculator should I use?

Choose the calculator that matches the material or construction element you are estimating. Use Concrete Calculator for general pour volume, Concrete Footing or Sonotube for foundations, and the Brick, Block, Mortar and Masonry Grout tools for masonry assemblies.

What is the difference between concrete and mortar?

Concrete commonly contains coarse aggregate and forms slabs, footings and structural masses. Mortar uses finer aggregate and bonds brick or concrete block at the joints. Masonry grout is a separate flowable material used inside reinforced CMU cells.

Do I need rebar?

Reinforcement requirements depend on structural loads, soil, exposure, wall or slab design and local code. Use the Rebar Calculator only for a preliminary takeoff based on the spacing and bar sizes shown on approved plans.

How much waste should I allow?

Five to 10% is common for many material estimates, while irregular excavation, complex layouts or uncertain site conditions may justify 15%. Use product guidance and contractor or supplier experience for the final allowance.

Can I estimate material costs?

Yes. Several calculators accept optional unit prices for concrete, bricks, mortar, grout or reinforcement. Delivery, labor, tax, pumping, equipment and minimum-load charges may need to be added separately.

How accurate are the calculators?

They provide planning estimates from the measurements and assumptions entered. Actual quantities vary with site conditions, product dimensions, supplier yields, installation methods and approved design requirements, so confirm final orders before purchasing.
